Critique Week Paintings II

Here are a few others from my oil painting class. They are all at least 30" x 30". The last one is 45"x 30":

Critique Week Paintings

These are some of the paintings I finished for critique week last week for one of my painting classes (oil). I used raw, unstretched canvas for drop cloths, just splattered paint, set my stuff on them, drew sketches on them, then gessoed and stretched them and painted on top. The top painting is about 35" x 35". The middle painting is huge, about 52" x 58". The last one is 17" x 45".

Finished collage

Here's a collage I finished a couple of weeks ago. You might recognize it; I worked on top of another piece.

Bunuelos

My stepmom taught me how to make buñuelos, which are little cheesey fried balls from Columbia (and other South American countries as well, but this kind is from Columbia). I took a rice mold that my friend Maritess gave me and used it on buñuelo dough.

I really am very busy with work, but sometimes when you are busy is when you get the most done, like posting very important snack pictures.

Oh, here's something

This painting was an assignment a couple of weeks ago. It's huge, like the size of me. My teacher said "This painting is so weird. I think it's changing my life." And then she just trailed off, saying she used to be a smoker and how she's trying to quit, just mumbling and touching her forehead. I'm glad even my not-fully-successful paintings are confusing important people.

Finals

Sorry guys, I have finals in two weeks. Wow, I am swamped with work.

Fun Knitting Projects

I knitted the hat, it was very simple. I used the Tahki tweeds yarn and size 7 circular needles. Cast on 80, Row 1: K, Row 2: P, Then k two rows, p two rows until you get 8 inches or so, k2tog or p2tog for one row (obviously in pattern)switch to size 3 needles and decrease every other row, either k2tog or p2tog. When you have a few stitches left, thread the yarn through them several times and pull tight.

For my hat, it's just a fisherman's hat in wool, a basic rib for 8 inches and then stockinette and decreasing.

The headwrap is a pattern I found on Ravelry.

A self-portrait for a class

This was one of my midterm paintings for a class. I think it's about 14" x 14", oil on unstretched canvas.

My Fashion Illustration Project

This is my first project for my fashion class and my first exercise in illustrating garments and drawing fashion figures. We had an inspiration image (above) that we had to design from. I chose this image because I think it has some great colors, gray and yellow and navy and blue, in it and also some different materials and shapes. It's supposed to be a military-inspired set of looks, because of the military-looking eagle pin attached to the mirror. If you look, every piece takes inspiration from something in the photo, and the colors are all matching as well.

It took me at least 40 hours to finish this project and incorporate it into a presentation. It's really hard to make the clothes and bodies look even semi-realistic! I think the final project came out a little cartoony when I was going for a more foreboding and sharp look, but everyone thought it was successful in the critique.

I need this!

I have been looking for a messenger bag for a few months but I couldn't make myself spend the money, even though I need one. This one was $168 and it was just what I was looking for. It appeared on Gilt Group this morning for $68, but I had gift certificates that covered the entire amount, including the tax and shipping, so it didn't cost me anything! I'm so excited!
